The Division 2 will be out soon
Ubisoft announced that they will be releasing their highest anticipated title, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 before the end of this financial year, which puts the date at around March 2019. Ubisoft first announced their online shooter sequel back in March, although they have chosen to remain very tight lipped about more details. We do hope to find out more at this year’s E3 scheduled to take next month.
To keep players hooked to the edge of their seats, Ubisoft has announced the launch of three new triple A titles before March 2019. These include The Crew 2, The Division 2 and one brand new title whose name is anybody’s guess.
Taking our cues from industry standards, we can expect The Division to release in November or March. So what could the mystery game be? Our educated guess puts it at Assassin’s Creed.
Ubisoft also announced the launch of their open world pirate game, Skull and Bones following the financial year, which places the launch somewhere along the very beginning of April 2019.
Things we already know about The Division 2
When Tom Clancy’s The Division first came out in 2016, it looked like the perfect cross between two popular genres, shooter and MMORPG. With its realistic depiction of a winter-esque snow covered New York and a contemporary setting, the game managed to stand apart from the competition.
News about The Division 2 first leaked through stock website 4-Traders in March 2018. While the image looked highly suspicious on its own, The Division 2’s logo was discovered on Ubisoft’s own website not too soon after. Amidst all the speculation, Ubisoft decided to officially confirm the existence of the game in a livestream.
The game itself is a collaborative effort between the original developer Massive Entertainment and Red Storm Entertainment, with contribution from other Ubisoft studios including Reflections, Shanghai and Bucharest. The game will be running on a modified version of the Snowdrop engine, which was used to make the first game.
Massive Entertainment has been polishing their title since its launch and has promised to borrow from their experience with the first title in the series, The Division. This can be evidenced with The Division’s 1.8 patch which added global events, Dark Zones and new tech.
Massive has chosen to give very little details about the setting of the next game, saying, “we’ve always envisioned the story at the launch of the first game as the beginning chapter of a larger saga.” This suggests that Massive wants to maintain continuity between the two titles in terms of storylines but they want to explore other options than New York City, to help them build their ‘larger saga’.
While Massive hasn’t really given us the names of the platforms, it is obvious that the game will be released on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
At the moment we can expect a ‘full reveal’ at this year’s E3, which will likely be followed after a Ubisoft’s press conference on June 11
