Technology users may hate software updates, but in the world of gaming, it means exciting new content for your favorite game. Fortnite managed to release one just in time for Season 4 with the V4.2 patch which updated on the servers on May 15. The patch brought much excitement to the game as it introduced a variety of new weapons including the Epic and Legendary Burst Assault Rifles, improved gameplay and a large number of bugs and performances issues within the game.
Of course, everyone’s favorite part of the update is naturally the weapons. Probably the biggest one was the addition of the Epic and Legendary Burst Rifle which will do 32 and 33 damage respectively. It now can be found in Floor Loot, Treasure Chests, Supply Drops and Vending Machines. In addition to the Burst Rifle, the V4.2 increased the Suppressed Machine Gun by about three and accuracy reset speed by 25 percent while the Damage Trap took a damage decrease from 125 to 75. Other updates include the Impulse Grenade increased to a 5 percent drop rate, removed the swapping delay between the grenade and the ability to aim it, and a remote explosives overhaul where they can now damage all in-range structures and increased the damage radius and throw distance.
However, what good are improved weapons without a way to combat the damage done. The V4.2 update introduced a new foraged item, an apple, to the gameplay. The apple will grant 5 health with a limitation of 100 and will be uncommonly found around certain trees throughout the game.
Much of the game play stayed the same. PC and consoles saw an auto-pickup update which allows players to pick up weapons and consumables by simply walking over them with an empty slot while in 50v50 v2 the DBNO damage were lowered from 10 to 5 and the final circle was shortened from 5 to 3, reducing the last circle to exist for 60 seconds before closing in again. Gameplay saw mostly an overhaul on its bug issues including but not limited to the bypassing weapon equip times, crouching through vents in the research facility in Dusty Divot and stuck doors. Players also will no longer be able to sprint at full speed through the Loot Lake Water.
The biggest improvement to Fortnite’s performance was a server increase, allowing the serve to load 20 to 30 updates per second and creating a quicker response time for players. For the full list of v4.2 patch updates, check out the patch notes at Epic Games.
