Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) games usually reach points of saturation and decline because it keeps capturing interests by staying relevant and fresh. This is exactly what the 8-year-old DC Universe Online was facing when they thought of leaning towards cinematic interests of fans.
This superhero feature of MMOs has now brought forward Teen Titans: The Judas Contract for the fans of this universe. This game is directly related to the 1984 comic book and its subsequent adaptation into an animated film last year. There was no coincidence in the timing of its launch in July as the hype for the film was at its peak.
Daybreak, the game company involved in these projects, has now also announced a plan for a feature called Atlantis. This, as you may have guessed revolves around Aquaman, and there is no coincidence in the fact that a movie is also in the works. The movie will be released in a month’s time and when it will have reached its peak of hype, the game will heroically swoop in to engage elevated interests.
A problem these games still have is that there is a shortage of innovations to make the game unique on its own. Judas Contract tried to address this issue by introducing a new Augment system. This system is a little hard to understand and adapt to for gamers but features mods which are similar to the old features.
Fan favorites like Jericho, Adeline Wilson, Terra and Damian Wayne are new characters to look forward to in this game alongside some changes in the classics. Cyborg and Starfire have gotten a makeover while Tim Drake from the previous feature is now Red Robin.
Other than these character changes, some new locations have been introduced into this feature of the DC Universe Online. Titan Island and Titan Tower are just two of the features which complement the new touchups to Cyborg and Red Robin. The tech-based background matches perfectly with the mechanical punches and sound effects – so this was really worth mentioning.
The creative director of this MMO feature, S.J Mueller said that the following year is going to be huge for fans of the DC Universe. This, alongside the license from comics without any micromanagement, is a worthy promise. With countless DC movies on the way, and fan’s getting riled up by effective marketing strategies, the game developers just have to ride along the rollercoaster of fan interests.
Mueller agreed to their obvious strategy by first pointing out that the gaming universe is totally parallel. After saying this, however, she agreed that the characters and offerings of the game need to be as legendary and iconic as those in the movies. This helps fans relate to the whole package and really immerse into an alternate reality of the DC Universe!
The game developers themselves are huge fans of the comic books and movies. This is why we can totally understand and relate to their strategy for making these games interesting. Thanks to them, we can now play our favorite superheroes after they have inspired us in their movies.
