Well, folks, it’s that time again, another week another weekly update from Sledgehammer games. For those of you who don’t know, each week the Call of Duty developer Sledgehammer games releases a weekly update letting everyone know what’s new in the world of Call of Duty multiplayer.

In this week’s update, we get the reveal of the second tier of challenges for Call of Duty’s recently released Blitzkrieg Community Challenges. The Blitzkrieg Community Challenges are essentially Call of Duty’s answer to Fortnite’s battle pass system. The community challenges work very similarly to the battle pass in that there are tiers and a player must complete a series of challenges in order to get the reward for that tier. So far the tier rewards starting from the bottom are a new emblem, a calling card, a weapon charm, a special helmet, and finally weapon variant skin. In a world where cosmetic add-ons seem to be the name of the multiplayer game, the new Blitzkrieg Community Challenges are a welcome addition. By giving players basic incentives for playing matches, it gives players who aren’t just trying to climb the competitive ranks something to achieve. We all know that multiplayer without any goals, achievements, or rewards eventually gets stale no matter how good the actual gameplay is. After all, if you’re not playing Call of Duty to one day get on the MLG stage, multiplayer can get pretty repetitive after a while. Call of Duty is looking to remedy that and community challenges could be the perfect solution. In addition to the challenges Call of Duty is also rewarding players who party up with friends and play the new Ground War: War mode by giving them double XP.

On the Nazi Zombies front, the community update released the 4th addition to the Drostan Files detailing an assistant from Berlin who “could be handy.” We’ll have to stay tuned to see if this is just an easter egg or a full on new playable character. Overall this update certainly isn’t shaking up the Call of Duty world all that much, but we should expect a major shakeup in the coming weeks.
