There have been some significant roster changes this Call of Duty season. After CWL Seattle, some of the premier teams have taken the opportunity to shake up their rosters in an attempt to better their chances for victory heading into Stage Two.
Perhaps the biggest news is that Tom ‘Tommey’ Trewren is gone from team Splyce, after the team finished at CWL Seattle with a middling top 20 placement. What makes the decision all the more surprising is that it was Splyce that made the decision to let Tommey go, and not the other way around. Tommey is currently a restricted free agent, and has said on Twitter that he’s considering retiring for the rest of the season if he doesn’t get an offer from another team, and is pursuing making the move from competing to streaming full time.
Many fans had expected to see NAMELESS, one of CoD’s most established players, competing at CWL Seattle, but the 12 year veteran was unable to join a team in time. While NAMELESS was at the event in the commentary booth, fans were eager to see him get back to competition. However, he recently announced on Twitter he is most likely sitting out for the rest of the season. With his future in doubt, NAMELESS will most likely stay involved in the Call of Duty scene, both as a commentator and a podcast host of the CoD Cast.
When Rise Nation traded Anthony ‘Methodz’ Zinni to Team Kalibur for an undisclosed fee, nobody thought there would be more to the story. A wrinkle has developed due to rumors that the trade included a deadline for Team Kalibur to make the payment. Rise Nation is saying that since Team Kalibur missed the deadline, they’re now looking to shop Methodz to OpTic Gaming. But the story doesn’t end there – OpTic is reported to only be interested Methodz to trade for Tommy ‘ZooMaa’ Paparatto of FaZe Clan. To make things even more complicated, FaZe Clan will then round out their lineup by trading Matt ‘FormaL’ Piper to Luminosity in exchange for Sam ‘Octane’ Larew. This staggering four-way trade is obviously quite complex, and the whole deal could easily fall apart. We’ll keep you updated as the situation develops.
Note that the rosters won’t be locked until May 7th, so there’s most likely many more changes to come as the deadline approaches. We’ll report roster moves as they’re announced, so keep your eye on this space for future updates.
