Epic Games has collaborated with Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War to bring Thanos into the game on May 8.
Just when you thought Fortnite couldn’t get any bigger, this new Marvel crossover solidified the game’s mainstream success. The superhero theme has taken on a much larger role in Fortnite: Season 4 Battle Royale because they have teamed up with Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War to bring you the new game mode “Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup.” Thanos, the villain in the latest Marvel blockbuster has been included in the game for a limited time only.
To play ‘Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup’, select the new mode on the right of the screen when you load up Week 2 of Fortnite Season 4. In this mode, players must obtain the Infinity Gauntlet, which has all six infinity stones to become Thanos. If you choose to start by yourself, you become a Titan who can blast into the air, smashing your enemies below you. The rest of the players will have to work together until someone grabs the Infinity Gauntlet.
This mode is played like normal until, the Infinity Gauntlet lands in a meteor that crashes on the map early in the match. Then the real fun begins when the first person gets the gauntlet and becomes Thanos. The other players must fight Thanos to get the Infinity Gauntlet for themselves. When he is defeated, he will drop the gauntlet and you must grab it quickly or a new one will drop in another crash. Once you have the gauntlet, you become the new Thanos and the fight continues for 15 minutes. Although Thanos can’t build or use weapons, you will receive his cool new abilities.
Thanos 4 abilities are :
- Thanos’s super punch knocks enemies back and destroys structures.
- The Power stone allows Thanos to to fire a laser blast that deals damage over time.
- Thanos can super-jump allows him to leap over almost anything.
- When Thanos flies towards the ground and hits and area, the knockback deals damage
Thanos also has shields that regenerate when he defeats another player. His health does not regenerate but he does not take fall damage.
The match starts with a storm circle, that can deal up to 10% damage, closing in over the island you fight on. Thanos may feel like an impossible villian to beat, but the floor loot spawns have been increased for items like launchpads, ammo boxes and treasure chests for the other players. Legendary weapons will also be spawned and harvesting resources are doubled to help the other players win. The drop rate for Chug Jug, Port-A-Fort, Boogie Bomb, Slurp Juice, Bush, and Remote Explosives are also increased. At the end of the match, the true winner claims a Victory Royale.
While the crossover has been mostly received with positive feedback and sending fans into a frenzy, many have found the villain too hard to beat, especially if you are new to the game. Because of this, Epic Games released a hotfix that made some changes to Thanos. His shield cap was decreased to 200 and max health was lowered to 700. His laser damage was also decreased from 15 to 12 when used against players. No one could have predicted that these two major franchises would come together, so you never know what might be coming in the next Fortnite update. With this mashup, Fortnite is definitely at the top of its game in this industry.
