Niantic, the developer of the first augmented reality platform Pokémon Go, is now moving towards another popular series – Harry Potter. Pokémon Go was downloaded over 800 million times, but it has surely met its decline.

Parks and beaches are no longer seen full of people staring into their mobiles looking for fictional characters of their game as was seen in 2017.

As gamers are seen hooked onto Fortnite, Niantic has something in store to revive their followership into their second major AR game. All that the developer of the game has stated in terms of this project is that gamers can expect all the features to be present which drew in Pokémon Go followers.

The developers have also stated that the game will make people go outside and spend time going places and exploring mechanics that can be enjoyed by friends. The game will also feature new technologies. They have not said anything about the release date though

Something that may be related to this ‘technology’ that the developers have mentioned in the statement was teased by Niantic. The popular game developers spoke about introducing a technology into augmented reality which will induce a multi-player experience. This is very related to the Hogwarts project as they very discreetly said that the new feature will be able to host experiences with your friends.

This technology pioneered by Niantic will allow you to  have up to eight players at a time in the space featured by the augmented reality. Everyone’s excited about this as a major drawback of Pokémon Go was that it couldn’t make you interact with other players.

Some other drawbacks of this augmented reality were along the lines of experiencing this world from the small perspective of a smartphone. Enter: the virtual reality glasse! They are already making virtual reality a possibility. Imagine reliving the Hogwarts experience by just walking around in your home!

The introduction of this technology, however, did not speak of any usage of the VR glasses, but this is highly anticipated by people who really want to play this game. The buzz about what the game may feature is endless. Some users are imagining a universe where they will be able to battle with their friends using spells in the game. Others are imagining reliving everything they saw in the movie series or read in the bestselling series of books.

One thing is for sure, that whatever Niantic learned from Pokémon Go, will be built upon in this game. If people were rumored to have collectively walked billions of miles for the previous feature, what will be the new record? What will be the achievements and possibilities offered by this game? How much more real could augmented reality get? Will players play Harry Potter or make their own avatars in the game?
